Recent conflicts in the Ukraine region, which was invaded by Russia, have generated international consequences that have gone beyond the military world. In addition to the country being banned in competitions such as the World Cup, which will only accept the selection with another name and without national symbols, now the theme also arrives in the world of games, such as Counter Strike, CS: GO.
BLAST Premier, the main eSport league involving the game, officially announced this Tuesday, March 1, that it will suspend Russian regions from competitions. The action was announced via the league’s social media channels and no set time has been given for which the suspension will be in effect.
Called the CIS (Community of Independent States), the region comprises Russian territory and has relevant teams that participate in competitions involving CS:GO. Among the most well-known team names are Virtus.pro, Entropiq and forZe, which will not show up in the next related competitions.
Check below the announcement of the organization of competitions related to CS:GO:
“Due to the conflict in Ukraine, no Russia-based teams will be invited to BLAST events in the near future. Our CIS qualifiers have also been cancelled. We are sorry to the CIS public and players for this decision, but we do not feel it is appropriate to proceed with this event at this time. Games and esports unite people of different races, countries and beliefs. We hope that the current situation in the world reflects this thinking as soon as possible.”
It is also worth mentioning that the suspension is regional. This means that only teams based in Russia will withdraw from competitions. Even so, Counter Strike teams that contain Russian players will be able to continue participating in the tournaments, as will the players themselves.
The next CS:GO tournament run by the organization will be the BLAST Spring Showdow. Although the competition will only start on the 27th of April, the qualifying stages have already started in March, this time without the teams based in Russia as determined.
