Details such as the host city and the games that will be played are still being defined.
In a historic move, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced that Saudi Arabia will host the first edition of the Olympic Games of E-sports in 2025. This initiative marks an important step in the recognition of e-sports as a legitimate and high-level sporting modality, opening doors to a promising future.
With over 2.5 billion players worldwide, the global gaming industry is already worth almost US$300 billion (approximately R$1.641 trillion) and is projected to grow exponentially, potentially more than doubling in value by 2032. Saudi Arabia, recognizing this potential, has shown great interest in the sector, controlling around 40% of the market and planning to invest US$38 billion in the industry by 2030. At the heart of this strategy is the construction of an entire city dedicated to gaming, an ambitious project that seeks to boost the country as a global E-sports hub.
While the 2025 Esports Olympic Games are confirmed, details such as the host city, the games that will be played and the format of the competitions are still being finalised. The IOC and the Saudi authorities are working closely together to ensure that the event is a huge success, bringing together the best athletes and providing a complete experience for esports fans around the world.
In addition, Saudi Arabia is also the stage for the first edition of the Esports World Cup. Direct from the country, the Qiddiya City Gaming and Esports District made its debut in Brazil during the first edition of gamescom latam, presenting “Unearthing Qiddiya”, a global tour of In Real Life Gaming, offering a preview of the game being developed in Qiddiya.
