In partnership with sportv and Premier, the entity revealed the identity of the personality during the São Paulo and Grêmio game
The Brazilian Football Confederation, in partnership with sportv and Premier, invested in an action to draw public attention to climate change.
During some games of the 2024 Brasileirão, the CBF placed a mysterious astronaut holding a sign that read “Take care of planet Earth. Only there is football!” and the character soon took over social media with questions about who was behind the costume.
“The recent tragedy in Rio Grande do Sul is proof of the challenges we have faced in relation to the climate crisis. We believe that sport can and should be a tool for change and awareness. That is why we decided to join forces with the CBF, our partner within the Brazilian football ecosystem, and support this creative initiative, which also serves to help those most in need at this time,” says Eduardo Gabbay, Director of Sports Channels at Globo.
After a few appearances, the identity was revealed during the match between São Paulo and Grêmio, at MorumBIS, in an interview with reporter Denise Thomaz Bastos, from sportv: the astronaut was Amaral, former player of the Brazilian National Team.
“Football unites Brazilians and is a powerful platform for raising awareness in our country. Taking action against the climate crisis is on our agenda and we will always support creative initiatives like these to fight for a better world,” said Ednaldo Rodrigues, president of the CBF.
The initiative also invited the public to participate in the “Donate Goals” auction, which aims to raise funds for victims of environmental tragedies. The film can now be seen on the sportv and Premiere channels, on ge.globo.com and on social media.
