A Disney has just announced that Mickey & Friends have brought together some of their favorite rock, alternative, punk and pop bands to reimagine their hits on the album ‘A Whole New Sound’, which will be released later this year and has already had its cover revealed.
Mickey is a huge music fan and has an extensive record collection, which gave him the idea for this new EP made especially for fans of all generations. In addition, the character’s impact on music is well known, as his first appearance in Steamboat Willie (1928) marks the first animated film to feature synchronized sound. Since then, his on-screen appearances have been accompanied by popular music from a variety of genres.
As part of A Whole New Sound, last Friday (12), the first single from the album was released: a version of ‘Can You Feel The Love Tonight’ by the multiplatinum band Simple Plan. Check it out.
The song is a tribute to the 1994 Walt Disney Animation Studios film The Lion King and its 30th anniversary. This pop-punk cover, also available on all streaming platforms, is a new interpretation of the classic song loved by millions of fans around the world.
“We wanted to pay homage to Sir Elton John’s original version while also bringing our own style to the song, making it fun and energetic. We’re really excited about the result and hope everyone enjoys it. We grew up watching Disney movies with our families and now we watch them with our kids, so it’s amazing to be asked to be a part of this album,” commented the members of Simple Plan.
In addition to the release on audio platforms, on August 9, 2024, the band will take the stage at D23: The Ultimate Fan Event to perform the single live for fans present at the event.
