O Palm trees takes to the field in the fight against animal abandonment and mistreatment. Mars Petcarea leader in pet nutrition and owner of the brand Pedigreeand the green and white club announced the official launch of a partnership in support of the Pedigree Adotar é Tudo de Bom program with a program of actions to combat animal abandonment.
As a kick-off to the partnership, the club produced a special miniseries showing the love of athletes from Brazil’s greatest champion for their pets. The production will be divided into four episodes, which will reinforce the importance of not abandoning any animal and will show how adoption can transform the lives of each one of them.
Among the activities prepared for the year’s calendar are the promotion and awareness during the games regarding the responsible adoption of pets, an adoption event on August 3rd, at the Palmeiras social club, neutering drives, product donations and incentive actions through awareness campaigns.
“Alliances like this strengthen our cause and reinforce the importance of forming partnerships to tackle the problem of abandonment in the country in favor of animal well-being and health. Among the challenges to bring to life our purpose of creating a better world for pets, ending animal abandonment is the main one,” says Gustavo Bruno, general manager of Mars Pet Nutrition in Brazil.
This year, ‘Pedigree Adotar é Tudo de Bom’ celebrates 16 years of operation and is the largest pet adoption program in Brazil, through which more than 1,600 NGOs and shelters have been helped, ensuring homes for more than 83,000 dogs. The initiative is one of the company’s important actions, which recently released a global survey on the “Animal Abandonment Index”, considered the largest international study ever conducted on homelessness and the factors that contribute to the high number of pets on the streets and/or in shelters. The conclusions of the global study revealed that in Brazil, approximately 30.2 million cats and dogs live in a situation of abandonment, which represents 25% of the total population of these animals. Of this number, 7,400 cats and 177,600 dogs live in shelters.
Joint actions for the animal cause between Palmeiras and Mars Petcare began in 2022 with the aim of promoting targeted actions to help reduce the number of abandonments and ensure the necessary care to improve the quality of life and longevity of pets. The partnership has been yielding good results and gained even more strength this year.
“This is a cause that has been on Palmeiras’ radar for some time, and we have already achieved satisfactory results in the actions we have carried out together with the PEDIGREE® Adoption is Everything Good program. We have expanded our partnership and will certainly achieve even greater goals,” said Everaldo Coelho, Palmeiras’ Marketing Director.
The partnership is part of the For a Greener Future program, which seeks to consolidate Palmeiras as a responsible organization that generates a positive impact for the football industry and society as a whole. The institutional responsibility project has economic, social and environmental pillars.
