A Adobe announces the release of features in Photoshop that were previously only available in beta. The updates were developed with Adobe Firefly Image 3 Model, the company’s generative artificial intelligence, and all users can now use tools such as Generative Fill with a reference image via text command, providing greater agility in the creation and editing of visual content.
According to Ana Laura Gomes, Senior Customer Success Manager at Adobe Brazil, these new features are ushering in a new era of the image editing application, with tools that bring the full potential of generative AI deeply integrated into the workflows that designers already know and use.
“In this update, other processes were improved without the use of generative AI, but with the aim of reducing the number of clicks required to perform professional and non-destructive work. These include the new adjustment brush, the contextual taskbar for manipulating shapes and transformations, and support for markers and numbering in the text tool,” explains Ana Laura.
The web version of Photoshop also gains the text command feature to generate images.
“Firefly’s features are present in Adobe’s tools to accelerate creative work while respecting artists. In addition to paying for the images used in the training, the focus is to make editing images and compositions as easy as possible, allowing you to experiment with countless variations until you reach the state of the art. Imagine being able to generate background variations in minutes, select an area and test different options for an object, expand an image and have the added space filled in automatically without even typing a prompt. It’s very practical!”, says the Senior Customer Success Manager.
Additionally, Adobe is introducing intuitive improvements to core creative workflows that unlock new levels of productivity, precision and control. Whether it’s easy ideation or end-to-end creation, almost anything is now possible, for anyone. This symbolizes the software’s commitment to continually delivering innovation for users.
Responsible innovation
The executive also says that Adobe Firefly is trained on content licensed through Adobe Stock. As such, the online solution has the ability to generate content for commercial use that does not infringe copyrights and other intellectual property rights, such as trademarks and logos. Adobe uses a continuous, multi-layered review and moderation approach to block and remove content that violates the company’s policies.
To provide transparency around the use of AI in Adobe applications, Firefly features in Photoshop will automatically have special credentials with tamper-resistant metadata to provide more information about the content, including whether AI was used in the creation or editing process.
These content credentials are based on the C2PA open standard and supported by the Adobe-led Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), which was founded in 2019 to increase trust in the digital ecosystem. Today, CAI has grown into a global coalition of more than 2,500 members from technology, policy, media, creative professionals, researchers and more, all working together to bring transparency to digital content.
