When the first Deadpool premiered there in 2016, I was fascinated by its politically incorrect humor. So much so that I put it among my Top 3 of that year. Now with Deadpool e Wolverinewhich opens in theaters this Thursday, I believe it will be no different. We still have several months until the end of the year, but I had a lot of fun with the film. I loved the intelligent and unself-conscious humor of this new adventure. It’s worth watching.
Wade Wilson/Deadpool is going through a tough time. He and Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) have broken up, and Wade doesn’t know which way to go. After all, he’s already been rejected by the Avengers. But a new invitation, which turns out to be a big threat, ends up making him have to go in search of a Wolverine from the multiverse (since this one died in Logan). That’s when he finds one of them (also Hugh Jackman), starting an unlikely alliance. Together, they face a formidable common enemy, triggering a journey with surprising twists and turns.
What did I think?
Ryan Reynolds is very good. In addition to being Deadpool, he is also the producer and co-writer of the film. He has also said that he worked very hard to write a script that would reunite Deadpool with Wolverine. And that became more difficult after Wolverine died in Logan. But the way to bring Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine was smart and in tune with the Marvel multiverse. The chemistry between the two is undeniable, and one of the highlights of the film. I’ll warn you that the rest of this text is spoiler-free. It doesn’t reveal who the special guests are. That’s because the moment of discovery is so sensational so many times, that it doesn’t deserve to be spoiled (although I know that many boring people will give it all away, lol).
#semspoilers
But there are many more. There is a joke with Mad Maxwith the acquisition of Fox by Disney, and an ugly (but very cute) dog. There is the soundtrack, totally pop, which even has Like a PrayerMadonna in a moment of bloody fighting (there are many moments like that). And also other moments with songs by N’Sync and John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John (all priceless). By the way, the soundtrack is another highlight of the film. But of course the highlights are the special appearances in the film. I won’t spoil the surprise, but for anyone who follows the films based on Marvel comics (before Iron Man)it makes you want to applaud in open scene.
Of course, many of the jokes depend on your knowledge of superhero cinema. And not just what’s in the movies, but also behind-the-scenes negotiations, projects that didn’t work out, or were forgotten. For those who have knowledge of this pop culture, it’s sensational. There’s, for example, a funny one that even deals with Hugh Jackman’s personal life, lol (#nospoilers). I also suggest you get to know at least a little bit about the series. Loki to understand a part of the story.
And still…
The villain of the story is Emma Corrin (The Crown), which works – she’s great at these weird characters, lol. There’s even a semi-villain (lol) played by Matthew McFadyen (from Succession). And here’s a tip: pay attention to the end credits – both in the video and in the actors’ credits to discover some “unseen” participations (lol). And of course, there is a post-credits scene, as is tradition – and it’s really fun. Just like the whole movie – which I loved!
