The “Black Boots” award aims to encourage teams to travel to games by train or bus
The Campaign for Better Transport, a UK advocacy group promoting sustainable transport, has teamed up with the Premier League to create a new trophy for the 2024/2025 season.
The Black Boot Award, run by The Leith Agency, will recognise “outstanding contributions to football’s carbon footprint” and aims to encourage teams to travel to games by train or bus.

According to the group, the trophy was designed based on information that Premier League clubs made 80% of their journeys by plane, creating 246 grams of carbon dioxide per passenger and causing seven times more emissions than train journeys.
“Domestic flights are simply bad news for the planet, especially when the same journey could be made by train or bus. Changing the way we travel is one of the most effective things we can do to reduce carbon emissions and football clubs must lead the way by playing a bigger role in our fight against climate change,” said Michael Solomon Williams, head of campaigns at Campaign For Better Transport.
