Luis Martinez will be responsible for leading the league’s business and expansion in the country
The National Football League has announced Luis Martinez as general manager in Brazil.
In the newly created role, the executive will be responsible for leading the league’s business and expansion in the country and will report to Gerrit Meier, managing director of NFL International.
“Having worked on important NFL programs and initiatives for nearly five years in Mexico, I am excited to take the next step toward expanding our presence in Brazil. The country has a valuable and passionate sports fan base, and with the strong fan base across the country, we will continue to build and grow the game of American football, starting with our first game in Brazil,” said Martinez.
Luis Martinez worked with the NFL in Mexico, leading marketing and sales, and has worked for companies such as Hasbro in Chile, Peru and Mexico.
As part of its international expansion strategy and its long-term commitment to Brazil, the NFL also intends to open an office in São Paulo, under the leadership of the new general manager.
“We are thrilled to have Luis lead our international growth efforts in Brazil. With the third-largest fan base in the NFL and the first game in the country just around the corner, this leadership position plays a key role in our success in the market, establishing a permanent presence for the NFL to engage new and existing fans year-round. We are excited about the opportunities ahead for the NFL in Brazil,” said Meier.
