The new “Show do Milhão” will now be hosted by Patricia Abravanel. The show will premiere on the Silvio Santos Program next Sunday (8). The question and answer game is back with a new look, maintaining the classic format that viewers know, but with new sponsorships.
While maintaining the traditional setup, the game show features innovation and surprises, such as the virtual assistant powered by artificial intelligence. Patricia takes a more serious approach compared to the game shows, giving a new identity to the established format, but still adding her personality and light and sensitive style.
The program already has three sponsors: Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul; EMS (pharmaceutical industry) and Copag (playing card company). In addition, these brands are highlighted in the mechanisms to help participants.
In the new “Show do Milhão”, the contestant has four types of help at their disposal. Only in the 1 million question the help cannot be used, regardless of which ones are still left. The new aids will be:
- “Virtual Assistant”: with the help of a virtual assistant, controlled by artificial intelligence that analyzes and collects data and information from a network, the participant can request research on the question in question.
- “Copag Cards”: using a traditional deck with the cards “Ace”, “2”, “3” and “King”, sponsored by Copag, the competitor can, through luck, eliminate one, two, three or no alternatives, respectively, from the question itself.
- “Universitários Cruzeiro do Sul Virtual”: three students from Universidade Cruzeiro do Sul Virtual are consulted, present in the audience and invited by the program to help with the game segment.
- “EMS Jumps”: the player will also have three chances to use the “EMS Jump” and refuse to answer the question, moving on to the next one.
“Show do Milhão is a very successful format! Our team worked to bring an even more exciting and engaging program, maintaining the essence that the public loves so much, but bringing new features such as the help of a virtual assistant for the participants”, says Fabiano Wicher, general director of “Programa Silvio Santos com Patricia Abravanel”, who directed “Show do Milhão” in 2021.
Start of a Classic:
Launched in 1999 by Silvio Santos, “Show do Milhão”, initially called “Jogo do Milhão”, quickly caught the attention of Brazilian TV, starting with the opening announcements.
In 2000, with the name changed to “Show do Milhão”, the program became an absolute audience success, full of emotion, especially when the presenter uttered his iconic phrases: “Can I ask?”, “Are you sure about that?” and “Right answer!”.
The participation of university students became fashionable in the country’s academic centers, which called SBT with the intention of sending representatives from their faculties.
In historic special editions, the attraction brought together presenters, singers, politicians and actors, and featured sponsored editions, reaching a historic milestone: the biggest promotion in the history of Brazilian TV until then, with 75 million letters received for editions in partnership with a food company.
The seasons with Silvio Santos ended in 2009. In 2021, Celso Portiolli returned to host a series of programs with a new look, but with the same excitement as always.
National February
The game show was a licensing success, launching video game cartridges, minigames, CD-ROMs, board games, encyclopedias, books and a major innovation: the Million Dollar Computer, which was the first initiative to popularize access to computers and the then-nascent Internet era, offering easy, interest-free financing, in addition to being cheaper than other computers of the time. An avant-garde move by the Silvio Santos Group.
“Show do Milhão” Rules
The new “Show do Milhão” follows the following dynamic for selecting participants: in the first stage, pre-selection is carried out through registrations on the SBT website. In the second stage, presenter Patrícia Abravanel draws 12 candidates on stage to start the program and compete for the prize of 1 million reais. If a participant loses or gives up, Patricia holds another draw for another candidate to play. In each episode, lasting about an hour, up to three participants can compete for the prize, always respecting the time of the format.
The game show has a sequence of 17 questions, divided into three difficulty levels: five easy questions, six medium questions and five difficult questions, in addition to the final question worth 1 million reais.
After the second question, the participant can choose to stop, which will correspond to the prize won in the previous question. If they get it wrong, they will take 50% of the prize won in the previous question. Only in the last question is there a risk of losing everything if they don’t get it right.
“Programa Silvio Santos com Patricia Abravanel” airs every Sunday at 7pm on SBT.
