The decision was published in the Official Gazette of the Union and, among the sectors, is broadcasting
President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva sanctioned, with vetoes, the law that maintains the payroll tax exemption for the 17 sectors of the economy that employ the most in the country, among them, broadcasting, and city halls with up to 156 thousand inhabitants.
The text was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union this Monday (16) and predicts that, in 2024, companies in these sectors will be able to replace the social security contribution, of 20% on employees’ salaries, with a rate on gross revenue, which varies from 1% to 4.5%.
Between 2025 and 2027, a gradual re-taxation process is planned, with rates being increased by a quarter per year.
In 2028, the 17 sectors will once again start paying the 20% contribution on payroll, an amount currently charged to companies not benefiting from the exemption.
The presidential vetoes do not affect the benefited sectors. The sanction ends negotiations that have been going on for over a year, closely monitored by ABERT, which will spare no effort to ensure that the tax relief for radio and television companies is maintained permanently.
