With great sadness, the advertising and artistic market bids farewell to Asta Gatz Birle, one of the first women to gain a foothold in the world of advertising agencies. Asta passed away last Thursday, September 12, at the age of 86. Born in Rio Grande do Sul, she began her career in advertising in 1957, as a lyricist at MPM in Porto Alegre, and worked until 1965 alongside great names such as Luis Fernando Veríssimo and Mário Quintana. At a time when the sector was predominantly male, Asta stood out for her creativity and pioneering spirit.
In 1970, Asta moved to São Paulo, where she decided to pursue a career in the visual arts. Having trained at renowned institutions such as the Pinacoteca do Estado de São Paulo, the Liceu de Artes e Ofícios and the Museu de Arte Moderna (MAM), she developed a vibrant and sensitive style, using techniques such as watercolor, encaustic and mosaic. Her work has been exhibited in important exhibitions in Brazil and abroad, in countries such as Canada, China, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United States.
Throughout his career, Asta Gatz Birle has achieved international recognition, including the Medal of Distinction at the International Exhibition of Arts Brazil–Orient, in Taipei, China, and the Silver Medal at the Official Salon of Fine Arts in Juiz de Fora, MG. His works are part of private collections in countries such as Germany, France, Italy and Japan.
At 86 years old, Asta leaves an immeasurable legacy to the advertising market and the visual arts. She is remembered for her courage, talent and pioneering contribution. Asta leaves behind two children and a network of friends and admirers who have always valued her work and strength.
