Electoral betting service will be considered illegal and may be classified as abuse of economic power
The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) approved a solution that prohibits betting houses from making “bets” involving the results of the 2024 municipal elections, called “Electoral Bets”.
According to the decision presented by Cármen Lúcia, president of the TSE, the electoral betting service will be considered illicit and may be classified as abuse of economic power and illicit vote capture by the Electoral Court.
According to the minister, placing bets on election results and offering financial benefits to attract voters is considered illegal by law.
“I am proposing, in view of the changes we are seeing in illicit practices, for which electoral judges, the Electoral Court, need to respond legally”, stated Lúcia.
The first round of elections will be on October 6th and the second round of the dispute could be held on October 27th.
