This week, Globo opened a space dedicated to the interaction of writers of Drama and Comedy with Estúdios Globo. A long-standing desire of many screenwriters, the initiative will bring creators even closer to the realization of their works, in addition to providing greater integration of the collective. Writer Rosane Svartman, one of the creators of the project, highlights the importance of the space. “I think it has the ingredient of belonging. You feel like you belong to a larger company. We can go to the studio, walk around the set city, and see how the work of hundreds of people comes from that blank page. And I like having this moment with the team, I think the ideas flow in a different way. It ends up creating a connection with the cast of the soap operas that the writers are writing there”, said Rosane.
The new development is part of a series of investments by Globo in the creative area, which this year receives the reinforcement of Aguinaldo Silva and Izabel Oliveira for the soap opera team, renews contracts with important talents such as Rosane Svartman, Gloria Perez and Ricardo Linhares; holds workshops to develop authors for the six and seven o’clock soap operas; in addition to expanding the actions to attract new creators in the various regions of Brazil.
The CEO of Estúdios Globo and TV Globo, Amauri Soares, emphasizes the relevance of the movement: “This inauguration is full of meaning. First, because it is a creative house within the Studios so that screenwriters can work here. Since the pandemic, we have been away from each other a lot. Everyone is working remotely, with video meetings, but meeting, bumping into each other, passing each other in the hallway and exchanging ideas is necessary for creation. And there is a final layer, which I particularly like a lot, which is the meeting of generations of writers and screenwriters. We have our veteran writers and a brand new generation arriving. It is very important that we combine the ideas of the new writers with the experience and skills of the veterans. We want Estúdios Globo to operate at maximum capacity, producing more content each year to offer the best ideas to our exhibitors: TV Globo, Globoplay and paid channels,” highlighted Amauri.
Author Juan Jullian celebrated the initiative. “This space is very special. We end up being very isolated from the productions. I think it is essential to breathe new life, to bring new ideas, to provide encounters that will not happen online, that can only happen here”. Author Renata Sofia emphasized that the experience of working in the Studios will help in the creation. “We write about life, our raw material for writing is the world, what is happening around us. So, having a physical room is important to socialize, to be able to go to the studio and see how the soap opera is coming along. And, in addition to being close to the product, there is the issue of experience itself, living the day-to-day life of a worker, which is what we are. This feeds us, our repertoire”.
Bernardo Portugal, Director of Artistic Talents, explained a little more about the actions and projects in the Research and Development area: “It is very important for us to foster new talent. We have a team that travels all over Brazil to participate in festivals and exhibitions, conduct research, and meet new professionals. We have 11 initiatives specifically for authors. One example is the Black and Indigenous Narratives Laboratory (LANANI), a partnership between Globo and Flup. We also hold workshops to train new main authors for 6 and 7 pm soap operas, for example. Our concern is to try to bring the IBGE indicators in our society to TV Globo, such as issues of regionalism, gender diversity, and racial diversity. So, we have a range of activities that are carried out to develop not only the team that is arriving, but also the team that is already here.”
Also participating in the inauguration of the space were the director of the Dramaturgy Genre, José Luiz Villamarim; and the director of the Humor Genre, Patricia Pedrosa, as well as the authors Ricardo Linhares, Dino Cantelli, Julia Spadaccini, Leonardo Lanna, Martha Mendonça, Nelito Fernandes, Renata Andrade, Sergio Goldenberg and Thais Pontes.
