The survey interviewed 1,045 Brazilians who used the social network and sought to understand the impact of the blockade in the country, which was among the 10 largest global users of the platform. Among the participants, 51% said they used the X frequently before the lockdown, while 30% used it less regularly. One in five (19%) had already reduced or abandoned their use of the platform before the decision, largely due to the increase in unwanted content.
Perspectives on the future of X in Brazil
For 72% of those interviewed, X should adopt more effective measures to avoid hate speech, while 82% argue that social networks should be responsible for combating the spread of fake news. Regarding the blockade, 43% believe that the decision was not justified, while 39% support the measure, and 18% said they did not have enough information to give an opinion.
The survey also revealed that 80% of respondents think that social networks should obey the laws of the countries where they operate. However, 35% expressed concern about the blockade, especially with regard to freedom of expression and the future of social networks in Brazil.
Impact of social networks and excessive use of mobile devices
Another study, commissioned by the website Nomophobia.com, revealed that 79% of Brazilians admit to using mobile devices excessively. In relation to X, 76% of those interviewed stated that news arrived faster on the platform than on other networks, which made 68% feel more up to date.
In the professional environment, 28% of respondents said that the suspension of X directly affected marketing campaigns, content strategies and engagement with the public. Additionally, 9% felt more distant from customers due to the lockdown.
Regarding migration to other platforms, reactions were varied:
- 56% of users said they did not migrate to new networks, they just continued using the ones they already had.
- 22% migrated to Threads.
- 15% chose Bluesky.
