Brazilian actress Bruna Marquezine has been officially confirmed in the cast of one of the next DC films: Blue Beetle. The announcement came on Tuesday night, March 8th. The actress herself reacted to the invitation, thrilled to have been given the opportunity to work in a large international production.
According to The Wrap, the actress will play Penny, the hero’s love interest in the story. The Blue Beetle, in turn, will be played by Xolo Maridueña, known for his role in the series Cobra Kai, on Netfix. In addition to Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo and Harvey Guillén were also confirmed in the cast of the production.
Check out the video in which Bruna Marquezine receives the news:
The film will adapt the stories from the comics that follow the life of Jaime Reyes. Of Mexican origin, the young man lives in Texas and gains powers when he finds a scarab-shaped object. His first appearance was in 2006, during the Infinite Crisis saga. Since then, the character has been gaining prominence in the publisher’s stories, even appearing in the game Injustice 2.
Blue Beetle is scheduled to premiere in theaters in August 2023. The direction will be in the hands of Puerto Rican filmmaker Angel Manuel Solo, known for his praised work on The Kings of Baltimore, which premiered in 2020. Belissa Escobedo in turn will play the hero’s sister, while Harvey Guillén has not had her role revealed.
It is worth mentioning that this is not the first time that Bruna Marquezine gets involved with a DC project. The actress auditioned to play Supergirl in the Flash movie that will hit theaters this year. She ended up taking second place in the contest, while the role ended up going to Colombian actress Sasha Calle.
