Rayssa Leal, Pedro Barros and Felipe Gustavo are BB Lab ambassadors
Banco do Brasil reinforced its presence in the sport with the launch of the Brazilian Skate Laboratory, BB Lab. Created in 2020 as the Amateur Bowl League, the event grew with the support of BB and became a platform for the skateboarding ecosystem amateur, now covering park and street modalities in three stages and creating training initiatives for professionals in the skateboarding industry, such as creators, videographers, photographers, commentators, announcers and judges. The first stage will take place on October 12th and 13th, in Nova Lima (MG).
The platform will offer lectures, workshops and mentoring with recognized sports professionals during the events, in addition to offering a permanent schedule of classes and research, which will be held at Casa LayBack spread across Brazil and open for social projects.
“Banco do Brasil’s performance in sports seeks to promote the sport and the chain of professionals who work in the area, the appreciation of athletes and the emergence of new idols with sustainability, among other attributes, and BB Lab brings a concept that connects with this strategy of BB, which is a fan and supporter of skateboarding”, says Paula Sayão, marketing and communications director at Banco do Brasil.
The initiative also has a team of ambassadors who will share lessons with the new generations of Brazilian skateboarders, such as two-time world champion and Olympic medalist Rayssa Leal, world champion and Olympic medalist Pedro Barros and SLS Sydney stage champion Felipe Gustavo.
“This project is perhaps one of the most important in our skateboarding core, as our mission is to continue the legacy of promoting the sport started by Pedro Barros, which has even won Olympic medals. The partnership with LayBack, a brand with a great reputation in scene, and the support and credibility of Banco do Brasil, are fundamental for BB Lab to be a hotbed of new talents”, celebrates Pedro Dau de Mesquita, CEO of 213 Sports.
BB Lab also reinforced its front of competitions and opportunities for Brazilian amateur skateboarders, with a league of its own events in the Park and Street modalities, the BB Lab Circuit. In 2024, the circuit will have three stages, in Minas Gerais, Santa Catarina and São Paulo, the latter with weight two in the BB Lab ranking. The winners of the season will be those who have the most points at the end of the São Paulo stage.
The winners of the men’s and women’s street circuit will win places in the SLS Select Series 2025, which is the Street League Skateboarding access event with the opportunity to compete in the SLS Championship Tour. The two winners in the park category will receive an immersion with Olympic medalist Pedro Barros, professionals from his team and other professional athletes, which will take place on their private track, in Florianópolis.
BB Lab is organized by 213 Sports and LayBack. The project is sponsored by Banco do Brasil and supported by Rumo Logística, Royal Enfield, Lupo, Dropdead and Fórmica.
