The first action of “Terra Futebol Clube” took place at Maracanã, during a match between Flamengo and Fluminense
The agency Isla, in partnership with the organization Count Us In, from London, and the Brazilian Onda Solidária, announced a movement to raise awareness about climate change through the “Terra Futebol Clube” project.
Under the concept “Enter the game to save the game”, the project has a series of actions developed with the boards and bases of large teams and aims to showcase a relevant social movement so that leaders can promote effective transformations.
“Terra FC’s mission is to inspire and engage the world of football in the fight against climate change and, in this way, influence the political world to create and adopt laws and systemic measures that effectively combat the greatest enemy humanity has ever faced”, explains Ricardo John, partner and ECD at Isla.
The first action took place at Maracanã, during a match between Flamengo and Fluminense. In the match for the Brasileirão, the teams came together to launch “Terra Futebol Clube” and play together for the planet. During the game’s break, children entered the field with respiratory masks in honor of the firefighters who faced the fires that occurred in the country in recent weeks, dressed in the Terra FC uniform, in addition to carrying warning messages and encouragement for the cause.
Furthermore, a video manifesto that explains the initiative and calls on fans to leave rivalries between clubs to join the new team, was broadcast on the stadium’s big screen during halftime of the game.
“Terra FC is a symbolic club that was created with the real objective of uniting clubs and fans against a main opponent: climate change, and warning that if there is no planet, there is no football”, says Ricardo Calçado, from Onda Solidária.
