Study showed which categories will be most searched
Mercado Livre and Mercado Pago carried out a survey to assess consumers’ purchasing intentions on Black Friday this year. The study consulted more than 27 thousand respondents and evaluated purchase intentions by categories, payment habits and also the average ticket.
What products are most desired by customers?
The most desired categories include Household Appliances, Home & Decoration and Electronics, with emphasis on Beauty, which rose two positions in the preference ranking compared to 2023. Check out the complete ranking:
Filtering further by type of product, 85% of people intend to buy fashion items, 75% beauty items and 58% supermarket items. In all three topics, shoes, perfumes and grocery items top the list.
Purchasing and payment habits
The results reveal that 85% of consumers intend to make purchases on Black Friday this year, an increase of five percentage points compared to 2023. Of these, 70% plan their purchases in advance, while 30% pay attention to ‘finds’.
When it comes to payment methods, 54% of consumers intend to use a credit card to pay for their purchases, and 32% choose to pay in up to 3 installments. In the rest of the ranking, comes Pix (19%), Line of credit (16%), Debit card or account balance (10%) and bank slip (1%), respectively.
Despite the choice for smaller installments, the trend is for an increase in the average ticket for Black Friday 2024 according to the research. Showing an increase of two pp, 25% of participants intend to spend more than R$2,000, while 27% plan to spend between R$1,000 and R$2,000, showing an even greater increase in percentage points.
According to the survey, 42% of customers expect discounts of more than 60%.
