Meta will test facial recognition against fake ads

The technology will also be used to help recover Facebook and Instagram user accounts

Meta announced that it will carry out facial recognition tests to try to stop false ads and assist in account recovery. After stopping using this technology, big tech will use it again on Facebook and Instagram for security measures.

The company will test facial recognition to identify images of public figures and celebrities in misleading advertisements. The technology will compare suspicious ads and photos on Facebook and Instagram, blocking the ad if misuse is found. Tests should take place in the coming weeks.

Facial recognition can also be used if the user loses access to Facebook or Instagram. Meta seeks to implement a ‘video selfie’ option that will be compared to the person’s profile photo. Apparently, the process should be similar to that used by Brazilian banks, in which the customer needs to turn their face in different directions indicated for verification.
