We want to bring more representation
Registration for the 72nd edition of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity begins on January 16, 2025. Pieces can be submitted until April 10. Held in France, the event is scheduled to take place between the 16th and 20th of June next year.
The information was presented during an event organized by Estadão at Teatro FAAP – Fundação Armando Alvares Penteado, in the Higienópolis neighborhood, Central region of São Paulo, on Monday afternoon (4).
This time, any professional in the Brazilian communications market will be able to sign up to judge the pieces, through the review of Estadão, the official representative of the event in Brazil.
“Artificial intelligence is on the lips of everyone who thinks about creativity, but it also raises issues of an ethical and even labor nature. We have to get used to this complexity and realize the importance of the human side”, commented Erick Bretas, CEO of Estadão , at the opening of the meeting, which was also attended by Marilia Marton, Secretary of Culture, Economy and Creative Industry of the State of São Paulo. “Introduced the creative industry to embrace advertising”, he highlighted.
Timeline
Preparations for the festival also involve the call for content, which will be launched on November 7th. Other news should be announced on the same date.
Lions increased the investment made in the free pass program for members of non-profit organizations and charities from 1 million euros to 2 million euros in 2025.
Interested parties can register from December 5th, the same date as candidates for the Young Lions, CMO Accelerator and The Lions Scholarship competition.
Cannes Lions CEO Simon Cook participated in the event alongside marketing head Nina Giglio. “We want to bring more representation,” said Nina.
After the talk ‘The impact of creativity on business and audience engagement’, Cook was part of the panel ‘The role of creativity as a driver of business and audience engagement’.
Mediated by Wesley Gonsalves, reporter for Estadão, the debate was attended by Laís Vita, communications secretary of the Government of the State of São Paulo; Raphaella Martins, program manager, Creative X at Meta, and judge of Glass Lions 2024; Cecília Alexandre, marketing director, LATAM at Heineken, and judge for Brand Experience & Activation Lions 2024; and Henrique Del Lama, executive creative director of AlmapBBDO and judge of Creative B2B Lions 2024.
Retrospective 2024
The festival received 26,753 entries across 30 categories. Brazil ended its participation with 92 Lions, the same volume of awards won in 2023. The country won two GPs, 14 Golds, 31 Silvers and 45 Bronzes.
There were 150 hours of content produced by around 500 speakers. One of the most popular panels was ‘Exploring the new frontiers of innovation’, with Elon Musk, owner of X (former Twitter), Tesla and SpaceX, and Mark Read, CEO of the WPP Group.
