Oracle, in collaboration with Gerando Falcões, is contributing to transforming the lives of young people in situations of social vulnerability, offering training for the technology market. The initiative seeks to provide new opportunities for young people between 16 and 22 years old, preparing them to enter the technology sector and boost their personal and professional development. The annual course covers programming in Java, English and socio-emotional skills, and is held in the cities of Poá and Ferraz de Vasconcelos.
Since the beginning of the partnership, in 2016, more than 240 young people have been immersed in the world of technology. The course, which takes place on Saturdays, is offered to people who are interested in the topic and are selected through a process organized by Gerando Falcões.
In addition to technical classes, students participate in a series of activities developed by Oracle’s volunteer program, which include robotics workshops, lectures on soft skills, career talks, visits to the Oracle office and participation in technology fairs. On these occasions, students have the opportunity to interact with professionals in the sector and expand their contact networks, gaining inspiration for a successful trajectory in the technology market.
Success stories exemplify the lasting impact of the partnership. Vitoria Silva, now Customer Stories Specialist at Oracle, is one of the young people whose life was transformed by the program. “The partnership between Oracle and Gerando Falcões completely changed my life through education. I fell in love with technology on a course offered by Oracle in 2017 and, later, I managed to join the company as a collaborator. Today, I have the chance to give back as a volunteer and be a reference for other young people”, he says.
Another example is that of Erik Silva, former student and current teacher of one of the course’s classes. “The course was a milestone in my life. At each stage I learned something valuable, especially in programming and entrepreneurship classes. This motivated me to become a teacher and bring technology knowledge to other young people. Contributing to the community is something that really inspires me”, he shares.
For Amanda Saviano, Social Impact Manager for Latin America at Oracle, the partnership with Gerando Falcões is fundamental to the mission of expanding access to technology. “One of the pillars of the Social Impact area is to advance in Education, combining it with technology. In addition to offering technical knowledge in Java, the course prepares young people for the professional market with English classes and socio-emotional skills, creating a solid foundation for their future”, explains the manager.
With this initiative, Oracle and Gerando Falcões continue together on the mission to transform the reality of young people in situations of social vulnerability, using technology as a tool for inclusion and empowerment.
