Piece was developed by BETC Havas
The new Citroën Basalt film shows the vehicle stopping monsters and robots from fighting in a cinematic setting. The idea was from BETC Havas. In the play, a monster and a giant robot fight in the middle of the city, as well as classic scenes from action films, in which cars are thrown everywhere.
But expectations completely change when the monster picks up the vehicle and is so amazed that, instead of throwing it, he starts talking to the robot about it. The fight then turns into almost a chat between friends talking about cars.
Some scenes were captured on the streets, but the video with technology and part of the filming took place in the studio. Using the same technique used in film productions, the actors performed against a wall of LEDs, where the backgrounds and sets are rendered in real time using the Unreal Engine.
The robot and monster characters were produced in 3D using the motion capture technique, in which an actor is recorded by infrared cameras that transfer their movements in real time to the animation.
“From idea to production it was a complex but very rewarding process. The first challenge was to find a story that explained the product, captured the public’s attention and went through all the approval stages. The second was to produce, in record time, a film with so much post-production. A project that has undergone global approval and will be exported to Latin America”, adds Marcelo Ribeiro, creative director at BETC Havas.
