Canva report identified seven patterns that point to the union of nostalgic and artisanal design with new technologies
Canva announced design trends for 2025 with insights from its 200 million+ user base on the aesthetics people are choosing to stand out at work and beyond. The Canva design team has identified patterns that can show the direction your design will take in the coming year.
According to the survey, all the trends verified for 2025 point to nostalgic and artisanal design meeting the precision of new technologies. Among the likely styles to stand out is the union of analogue with artificial intelligence inspired by analogue techniques such as collage. According to data from Canva, searches for ‘scrapbook’ have increased by 92% since last year.
Another trend is the modular style that uses striking shapes to create structure, combined with backlit photography and warm colors to convey an intimate feel. The terms ‘shapes’ and ‘modular’ grew 56% and 23%, respectively, last year, according to Canva research.
Minimalist luxury seeks to combine a minimalist aesthetic with rich, intricate details, evoking understated glamor through striking yet harmonious compositions. The terms ‘elegant’ and ‘luxury’ are up 33% and 30% respectively, according to Canva.
The terms ‘silly’, ‘funny’ and ‘humor’ increased by 92%, 36% and 27% in Canva research, respectively, pointing to a fun way to combine business and leisure. This style seeks to combine humor and everyday elements in unexpected ways to reinvent the concept of professional design.
Also according to Canva, another trend uses motion to enhance the storytelling experience through subtle motion gradients and dynamic motion typography that create rhythm and flow. The words ‘movement’, ‘animation’ and ‘interactive’ increased by 109%, 78% and 46%, respectively, in the company’s survey.
‘Raw sophistication’ seeks to challenge conventional aesthetics with a more raw style, encouraging unique visual identities and differentiated voices. The terms ‘cutting edge’, ‘bold’ and ‘different’ increased by 71%, 40% and 23% respectively in Canva’s search.
Finally, another design trend for next year points to the union of technology and biology, combining dreamlike textures from nature with the use of gradients and negative spaces to create harmony. The words ‘techno’ and ‘cyber’ increased by 30% and 32% respectively, in the Canva study.
