Fernanda Torres shone in Governors Awardsan event held last Sunday, in Los Angeles, and which celebrates big names in the film industry. In the record shared by the Academy on its official profile, the actress appears stunning in a black dress designed by the French brand Christian Dior.
The publication with the photograph taken by Sami Drasin quickly became a phenomenon among Brazilians, who flooded the post with comments and likes, surpassing the impressive mark of 1 million likes.
Between praise and requests, many are clamoring for an Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her performance in I’m Still Here. The film, directed by Walter Salles, places Torres on a trajectory that directly refers to her mother, Fernanda Montenegro, the only Brazilian nominated for an Oscar for acting, in 1999, for Central Brazil — also directed by Salles.
To give you an idea of the “madness” of Brazilians, photos from the same event posted on the Academy’s profile with names like Andrew Garfield and Lupita Nyong’o do not reach 50 thousand likes. In fact, Brazilians also invaded these photos to comment on the Brazilian actress. In Lupita’s image, for example, the most liked comment says: “It’s going to look beautiful in the audience applauding Fernanda Torres being announced as GREATEST”.
The enthusiasm rekindles the hope of a new Brazilian nomination for the highest cinema award. The official list of nominees will be released on January 17th, and until then, the fans and campaigns continue at full steam.
Could 2024 be the year of another historic milestone for Brazil at the Oscars?
