The award went to the documentary by Repórter Record Investigação about climate exiles
“Exiles for the climate in the Amazon”, a documentary shown by Repórter Record Investigação, secured an award for Record’s journalism. The production, which denounces the tragic effects of floods and drought on riverside communities, came first in the “Sustainability” category of the Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) award.
In addition to this, four other works from Record were AIB finalists, which held the award ceremony in London, last Friday (23).
The program team spent 20 days traveling through the Amazon to tell the stories of those suffering the devastating effects of climate change. The World Bank estimates that, in the next 25 years, Latin America will reach the milestone of 17 million climate refugees – people forced to leave their homes because of climate catastrophes.
In total, more than 80 media outlets from 16 different countries, with global reach and in different languages, participated in the competition.
