Miniseries about real adventures that involve a lot of money and a consequent fall have been getting a lot of attention in streaming lately. just remember to Inventing Anna (Netflix) e The Dropout (Star Plus). And now there’s the premiere of We Crashed on Apple TV Plus. There are 8 episodes, three of which are already available today (18). It is based on a podcast, and has two Oscar-winning mega-stars, Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway.
WeCrashed is inspired by real events. And it places great emphasis on the love story that is at the heart of it all. WeWork has grown from a single coworking space to a global brand worth $47 billion in less than a decade. And, in less than a year, its valuation has dropped by $40 billion dollars. What happened?
The series tells this story. It also shows the relationship of founder Adam Neumann (Jared Leto) and his girlfriend, and later wife Rebekah (Anne Hathaway). There are times when the love story is even more important and stronger than the company part of the WeWork business. I’ve already seen the first three episodes, and despite the occasional grueling moment, the series engages.
the first three episodes
The first episode starts from the end. Namely, how Adam lost everything. From there, it starts to show how it all started. Adam is a very interesting figure. A highly determined man with a big mouth, who wants to figure out a business to make how he can get there. It’s also the moment he meets Rebekah. She is a yoga teacher, cousin of Gwyneth Paltrow (really!). The chemistry between Leto and Hathaway is great, and you’re totally convinced by that passion.
In the second episode, Adam takes a big step towards creating WeWork. But he breaks his face, and only manages to survive thanks to a help from Rebekah’s father. She in turn gives her acting career a chance. But the two realize that together they can reach higher flights. And in the third, WeWork is already a success. Adam and Rebekah have a baby. But problems start to appear. And it all becomes more visible during a weekend convention.
Of course, the great strength of the series is the incredible performances of Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway. as in Gucci house, Leto wears makeup, dentures, contact lenses and a super accent that, at first, can be a little distracting. Plus the fact that he doesn’t age right? But Jared is an incredible actor, and he has one of the best moments of his career here in We Crashed. Anne is not far behind. She lives that kind of character always ready to explode. And she uses a lower-than-usual tone of voice, which also distances her from memories of other roles. With each episode, these characters become even more interesting, thanks in large part to the enormous talent of their actors.
