Toho Studios, a Japanese film studio, officially announced today, March 18, that actor Akira Takarada. Toho was responsible for the first Godzilla film, in 1954, in which the artist took part and became known for his character, the sailor Hideto Ogato. Takarada would be 88 years old next month. The cause of death has not yet been revealed.

The first film of the most famous kaiju in cinema was not the only production that Akira participated in involving the character. The actor also acted in the American version of the film, in 1956. In addition, he also returned to play his character in sequels of the franchise until 2004, in Godzilla – Final Battle.
Takarada’s death marks a time of mourning for fans of horror and science fiction cinema. In addition to the films of the Godzilla franchise, he has also participated in other productions of the same genre. Some of the films that were marked by the presence of the actor are War of the Monsters, from 1965 and Escape from King Kong, from 1967.
Akira also worked as a voice actor. Among the notable characters he voiced is Jafar, who he played in both Aladdin and the video game Kingdom Hearts. The actor divorced in 1984 and since then has not remarried, however, he leaves a daughter.
