The new action comes after the messaging app complies with the court’s rulings and also appoints a legal representative in the country.
Minister Alexandre de Morais, of the Federal Supreme Court (STF), this Sunday (20) revoked the determination to block Telegram, after the messaging app complied with the court’s decisions.
Last week, the magistrate had ordered the suspension in order to combat disinformation campaigns. The action responded to requests from the Federal Police, and requested, through Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency), that providers and digital platforms block user access.
After the measure, Pavel Durov, founder of the app, apologized to the STF, appointed a legal representative in the country and accepted the court’s decisions, which included deleting a post by President Jair Bolsonaro and blocking the “Claudio Lessa” channel, in addition to providing the account registration data.
On Friday, upon learning of the blockade determination in Brazil, Durov blamed an “email problem” for the lack of response to the STF. “We seem to have an issue with emails between our corporate telegram.org addresses and the Federal Supreme Court of Brazil. As a result of this miscommunication, the Court decided to ban Telegram for not responding,” he stated.
