Warner has officially released a deleted scene from The Batman. In the 5-minute video, fans can get a better glimpse of the Joker in the movie, who in the final cut only appeared for a short time and without much visual detail. The new version of the character is played by actor Barry Keoghan.
In the scene available, Batman goes after the Joker to ask for an opinion on Gotham’s new serial killer, the Riddler. The clown is trapped in Arkham Asylum, where the mentally insane villains of the batman go after being arrested by the masked vigilante. The scene also makes it clear that the protagonist and his greatest enemy already know each other in this universe.

The video, while showing little, does give some bigger glimpses of the villain’s look. According to the film’s director, Matt Reeves, this version of the Joker has a birth defect that makes him never stop smiling. In addition, many scars can be seen on his face, which could be a reference to the character’s most well-known origin, in which he fell into a tank of acid and was deformed.
The scene was excluded from the final version of the film, however the director had already commented on its existence and that he would like to reveal it to the public. The exclusion of the cut that went to theaters was probably to not run the risk of the presence of such an iconic character ending up erasing the participation of the main villain of the plot, the Riddler.
This isn’t the only recent live-action version of the Joker. The character won a movie of his own in 2019, with Joaquin Phoenix starring in the production and his performance won him an Oscar for Best Actor. In addition to him, other names were also marked for playing the clown, such as Jared Leto in Suicide Squad (2016), Heath Ledger (2008) and Jack Nicholson (1989).
