In the press conference held this Tuesday, March 29th, the coaches of Paulistão were not so happy with some measures carried out by the organization of the championship. Rogério Ceni, leader of São Paulo’s technical team, and Abel Ferreira, from Palmeiras, complained about the organization of the tournament.
The biggest problem that generated discussion was the date of when the last match would be held, which will define the champion. Disputed by both teams, the decision ended up staying at Allianz Parque, Palmeiras stadium, next Sunday. Even so, the team’s board wanted the decision to be left for Saturday, as there will be a show by the band Maroon 5 and the team was in danger of not being able to play in the Paulistão final.
To adjust the dates and not lose their own house in such an important game, the board of the alviverde team had to make an agreement with the company that manages the stadium jointly, WTorre. After conversations, Palmeiras managed to keep the date to contest the final of Paulistão, even so, the risk of almost having to dispute a decision outside was not so good for the board.
Coach Abel Ferreira himself commented on the problems that were generated by the decisions taken by the federation. He pointed out it was a mistake not to have chosen an exact date for the final in advance. In addition, the Portuguese even mentioned his rival, Corinthians, as one of those harmed by the lack of organization. Check out the technician’s words below:
“The most affected in all this was Corinthians, let’s be honest. It is a pity that the date of the final was not fixed earlier. A very big mistake was made, the final should have already been decided, whoever hurts, whoever passes. Now, after there are already two finalists, of course each will fight for what’s best for them. If it was already fixed, no one would discuss anything. I understand, I have flexibility, but logically we want it to be the fairest for everyone. The fairest thing is that each one has 72 hours of recovery, whoever the opponent is. Of course it makes a difference. Corinthians lost a player in five minutes. There are no miracles”
Rogério Ceni also gave his opinion on what happened. The coach of the tricolor Paulista stated that the main reason for São Paulo not wanting a final on Saturday is not to take the stadium away from Palmeiras, but to have more rest time between one game and another of the decision. Read the former goalkeeper’s words below:
“Allianz is a right earned and deserved by Palmeiras. The only manifestation of ours was to keep the game on Sunday. Corinthians played with less time than us [na semifinal]. And at a time like this, 48 hours makes a lot of difference for a team. The only thing we wanted was to be able to have that fourth day of recovery for Sunday.”
The final will begin with the first game held this Wednesday, the 30th, at Morumbi. The match will be televised by Record.
