Known for addressing issues relevant to society in its campaigns, Burger King takes advantage of April Fools’ Day to invite consumers to exchange fake news for a real WHOPPER. The action is carried out in partnership with Aos Fatos, one of the main independent news checking agencies in Brazil, and will be available to customers between the 1st and 3rd of April, limited to the first 300 people who participate in the action.
The campaign, conceived by Agência Ginga, raises an important debate about the spread of fake news, especially on social networks. According to research by the IDEIA and Vero institutes (2021), eight out of ten Brazilians consider the spread of fake news to be a serious problem.
Consumers should send their suspicions of fake news directly to the bot Fátima, from Aos Fatos, at number (21) 99747-2441. To participate in the action, the customer needs to send the hashtag #WHOPPERDEVERDADE, and then report the fake news link. After sending, he will automatically receive a reply message, containing a discount coupon of R$ 14.90, an amount equivalent to a WHOPPER®, along with the steps for the redemption, which can be carried out in a purchase from of R$ 29.90 for the discount to be applied to BK Delivery until April 15, 2022. Fake news will be evaluated later by the Aos Fatos team.

“We chose to address issues that need to be debated in society in our campaigns, such as Fake News. And for that, we joined partners, such as Aos Fatos, so that we can expand knowledge and discussions on the topic”.

“Disinformation is an urgent issue that must be discussed among all. We took advantage of April Fool’s Day to raise the importance of checking information before passing it on. Today we have institutions, such as Aos Fatos, that are dedicated to the work of checking and that can help prevent many fake news from being spread around, often causing irreversible situations”.
