Anyone who knows me knows that I love musicals. I’ve had the opportunity to see several. In addition, I also love movies and series about the backstage of these productions. Smash e Glee are some that come to mind. And now this Friday, Disney Plus is releasing a very cute movie of the genre. IT’S Introducing Natewhich premieres this Friday (01).
It is based on the hit comics. It shows the daily life of Nate Foster, a 13-year-old teenager who has a big dream: to perform in a Broadway musical. The problem is, he can’t even get a part in his school play. But when his parents leave town, Nate and his best friend Libby flee to New York. The idea is to audition to be part of the cast of the musical from Lilo e Stitch. Only they will have to go through several adventures. Including a chance meeting with his aunt Heidi (Lisa Kudrow), who turns his life upside down. And since it’s a Disney movie, together they’ll have to learn that life’s greatest adventures are as big as their dreams.
What did I think of Introducing Nate?
The premise is not original, and the photography resembles some Disney channel productions. But the film has good energy. A lot is given to the young cast. Rueby Wood, who plays the lead role of Nate, comes from the theater. Premieres here in cinemas. He’s great, but he has a certain musical theater exaggeration. But that works for Nate’s style, which always seems to be on stage. The girl Aria Brooks, from the series Saved in the City, works well, as does Joshua Bassett, who plays Nate’s brother. You may remember him as Ricky from High School Musical – A série (also from Disney Plus).
And of course, there’s a cameo by Lisa Kudrow. She plays the aunt who pursued her dream of being an actress, and loves the determination of the nephew she meets by chance. The film has well-done musical numbers that fit the story perfectly. It even has a cameo by George Benson, interpreter of the American theater anthem, On Broadway.
The film has a little Enjoying Life Adoidadoand a little more Billy Elliott. Nate has a lot of Rachel Berry’s determination (Glee). And that works fine. It has a good message of chasing your dreams. Maybe not everyone likes it. Some will complain that he hides his parents’ trip. Others from the suggestion of your sexual option. But, even for these, the story is so uplifting, a good afternoon session, that you have to be very bad-tempered not to board!
