A frequent user of Twitter, Elon Musk, founder of Space X and Tesla, has become the new partner of the social network. He has just acquired 9.2% of the shares of the platform where he has more than 80 million followers and has been since 2009.
The investment was revealed on Monday (4) with the release of documents showing the purchase on March 14. Musk owns 73.5 million shares of Twitter, which represents a passive participation of up to US$ 2.9 billion, considering the closing of last Friday (1st).
The news heated up the financial market and the company’s shares have risen more than 20% since the opening of Nasdaq, where they are traded. The shares are held by the Elon Musk Revocable Trust, which has the executive as the sole owner.
The billionaire uses the social network for various subjects, from launching products and services to criticism of governments and entities and, of course, many controversies.
In recent times, he has also used his tweets to show that he disapproves of the platform’s lack of clear policies regarding freedom of expression and has even considered creating a social network.
