The project, which marks the first launch of the partnership between the three companies, debuts globally on May 3.
The first fruit of the partnership between Spotify, Warner Bros and DC, announced in mid-2020, already has a release date, May 3. It is the original audioseries “Batman Awakens”, a psychological thriller that features Bruce Wayne as a forensic pathologist working at Gotham Hospital and tasked with examining the victims of “The Reaper”, a serial killer who preys on the city’s citizens.
The project, which also represents Spotify’s largest simultaneous global release to date, will feature eight adaptations of the original US script, developed for Brazil, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan and Mexico.
Each version will feature local talent and production teams, and adapted scripts will be created to reflect the culture and language of the countries while staying true to the main story. In Brazil, the role of Bruce Wayne and Batman will be played by Rocco Pitanga.
According to Dawn Ostroff, director of content and advertising at Spotify, the team is eager to bring the franchise to millions of listeners. “Through our extraordinary partnership with Warner Bros. and DC, we have the unique opportunity to usher in a new era of universally beloved DC superheroes through the world of audio, voiced by all-star casts. The power of podcasts has never been more evident than with David Goyer’s chilling sonic masterpiece, which tells the transcendent story of the one and only Bruce Wayne,” she stated.
Through the partnership of the three companies, other characters should win audioseries over time, such as Superman, Wonder Woman and Joker.
