The writer and speaker Joel Jota made a parallel with his professional trajectory to explain his thesis of the fundamentals of high performance
The first day of Gramado Summit 2022, which takes place between today and Friday (8), was marked by lectures with a motivational background to achieve success in career and life. After the keynote by the event’s CEO, Marcus Rossi, who has already anticipated the date of the innovation conference next year – between April 12 and 14, 2023 –, the opening of the main stage was made by Joel Jota, writer of the bestseller “Be, alive, remain 100% present”, who spoke about the fundamentals of high performance.
Former swimmer, the speaker drew a parallel about his own performance in the pools to show how it is possible to have results in “real life” with a lot of training. Jota started swimming as a child and, at 15, thought about giving up, but it was after his coach’s praise, that he never missed training, that he decided to improve. “Do you want to be motivated? Progress, improve, advance”, he advises.
According to him, the first foundation of high performance is training. “It is by getting it right that you learn, that you win and have more value”. After a defeat in a dispute with swimmer and medalist Gustavo Borges, whom he was targeting, Jota decided to abandon the pools. “I didn’t lose, I took a beating from him. I thought at the time: if I wasn’t born with the arms of a champion, may I have a champion mind”.
It was from there that he began to use his talent for communicating well to achieve professional success. She wrote her first book after three years of testing her method. “Don’t be in a hurry, if you recognize your talent and train, you can get there”.
Recalling that the second foundation of high performance is talent, Jota says that success is trainable. “The only way to be respected is to have results”. He also points out that the best way to change a habit is to change your environment. “I entered USP and I was good. There were only good people there, better than me, and that’s when I got better”.
Finally, the third foundation of high performance is trust. In Jota’s view, if someone is being charged, it’s because people trust you. But he points out, “Learn to trust yourself more than anyone else. If it weren’t for Gustavo Borges, I wouldn’t be Joel Jota. Be obsessed with results,” he summarized.
cycles
Along the same lines, Nelson Sirotsky, former president of Grupo RBS, addressed the theme “Cycles of passion for entrepreneurship”. At 69 years of age, the author of the book “The eighth day”, spoke about his various professional phases and his trajectory in the communication industry where he started alongside his father, founder of RBS. For him, life is lived in cycles, divided into three: the first is the fundamentals; the second is the purpose phase; and the third is the reinvention stage.
“In our youth, we formed our values, foundations. In the second phase, we define the purposes. And in the third, which is where I find myself, we add the fundamentals and lessons learned to reinvent ourselves. The secret is the learning that we are able to conquer, regardless of age”.
Sirotsky reinforces that study and curiosity are indispensable for building the future. For him, experiences bring learning from mistakes and successes. “Don’t be afraid to experiment, making mistakes is part of it and successes will come”.
According to him, in 2015, after leaving the presidency of Grupo RBS, he decided to revisit his purposes and launch the book “O Oitavo dia”. For Sirotsky, the ability to think can be life’s greatest tool and time is our greatest asset. “We don’t change the past, the future is uncertain and we really have to live in the present”, he summarized.
