Given the rise of the digital world and looking for new options that favor users, this week Rappi innovates and launches a pilot project for the use of cryptocurrencies as a means of payment. The initiative was developed in Mexico, opening up the possibility for users who have cryptocurrencies to convert them into in-app products.
For this pilot, the application involved teams from all areas. The goal is to provide an easy in-app purchase experience and also to strengthen the security of transactions through an alliance with Bitso and Bitpay.
According to Sebastián Mejia, co-founder and president of Rappi:
“Innovation is one of Rappi’s pillars. We are studying the world of cryptocurrencies with interest and believe that the future is the intersection of the crypto world with traditional non-crypto business, with easy and uncomplicated user experiences. In this first phase, we decided to build a product that allows our consumers to connect their digital wallets and exchange accounts to convert cryptocurrencies into Rappi credits and, in this way, access all the products available within the platform. For our partners, it represents the opportunity for millions of users to use this solution to shop on Rappi. It is a first approach that will allow us to learn and continue to incorporate the world of digital currency into Rappi”
For now, in this first pilot, users of Rappi in Mexico will be able to pay with cryptocurrencies for app credits, which can then be spent on any of the products and services offered by the app.
