The sandwich is made with “pork shoulder” and “natural rib flavor”; Procon-SP informed that it will notify the company
Days after all the controversy involved the McPicanha line, from McDonald’s, now the one in the spotlight is Burger King with the “Rib Whopper”, launched at the end of last year. Procon-SP informed PROPMARK that it is already preparing the notification for the company and will ask for explanations about the product.
A little earlier, Burger King confirmed that the sandwich, instead of “rib”, has “pork palette” and “100% natural pork rib flavor”. The information came after social media users began to raise the issue.
“Transparency towards our customers is a fundamental and non-negotiable value for Burger King. In this sense, in relation to Whopper Costela, the chain emphasizes that, since the launch of the product, it has always communicated clearly in all its communication materials. the composition of the hamburger present in the sandwich, produced with pork meat (swine shoulder) and with a 100% natural pork rib aroma”, declared the company.
Despite the brand’s explanation, the product launch movie, which can be seen below, shows otherwise. At no time is there information, in a transparent way, about the sandwich not having pork ribs.
The same reality can be perceived in the promotional materials used on the Instagram page.
When contacted, Conar (National Advertising Self-Regulatory Council), which opened a process to investigate the McDonald’s campaign, has not yet commented.
