May 9th is a special day for anime fans, especially the Dragon Ball franchise. Goku Day has been celebrated since 2015 and the date came from the pronunciation of the numbers of the month 05 and the day 09 in Japanese: “Go” for 五 (5) and “Ku” for 九 (9). And to celebrate, the Warner Channel prepared a Wanimé special with a supermarathon dedicated to the character, in Monday, May 09Starting at 08h00in Brasilia time.
Wanimé is Warner Channel’s programming dedicated to anime, which premiered in April. In addition to Dragon Ball Super, it displays titles such as Bleach, Death Note and Yashahime.
In the marathon, there will be 12 hours of programming dedicated to Goku, with Dragon Ball Z KAI e Dragon Ball Super, for no fan to put a defect! In Dragon Ball Z KAI, Son Goku is a warrior who discovers he is part of a legacy of powerful alien conquerors – and goes on to defend his adopted planet, Earth, from other beings equally super strong and capable of extraordinary feats.
In Dragon Ball Super, after finally destroying Majin Buu, Goku has returned to his normal life and Earth can once again experience peace. But his mission is far from over: now Kakarot will need to defend the planet from destructive and highly dangerous ones, including parallel universes.
For Wendel Bezerra, who has dubbed Goku for over 20 years, the date is very special. “I think it’s amazing that there’s a Goku Day. For me it is a great blessing to have the opportunity and honor to voice Goku. It’s really cool because I end up impersonating a fictional character, so I get this affection and a lot of messages, especially on Goku Day and it ends up happening through my voice”, comments Wendel.
And for those who follow Wanimé on Warner Channel, the actor has a message: “Guys, I want to invite you all to watch Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball Z KAI. I’m sure you’ll fall in love, you’ll get emotional, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but especially you’ll have a lot of fun with this work on the channel’s programming”, he concludes.
