When you see an advertisement for a French comedy, with Monica Bellucci in the cast, called fetishes, it is obvious that this catches your attention. Well, he called mine too, lol. The film premiered hoe (6) in dubbed and subtitled versions for purchase and rent on digital platforms. It’s on Claro Now, iTunes/Apple, Google/YouTube and Vivo Play. It’s a weird comedy, with some fun moments – just a few.
The film is divided into six stories, telling the story of six couples who have different fetishes. According to directors and screenwriters David Foenkinos and Stéphane Foenkinos (The Delicacy of Love), they did extensive research on the topic. This resulted in a list of over 250 costumes. “All the fetishes that are in the movie really exist. Our biggest concern was to show them as realistic as possible”.
What did I find?
The themes are six. The first shows a man who only gets excited when he takes on another role. The second is that of a woman who only wants to have sex with her husband when he is sad or crying. There are still a lot of crazy people who get excited when they are prevented from consummating the act. There is still that of a man who is sexually attracted to sisters of loved ones. And yet another who likes to be seen making love. The episode that tackles this last theme turns out to be the most fun – it’s also the last. In it Karin Viard (The Belier Family) is a teacher whose sex video with her husband ends up on the internet. Some don’t work so well. The most boring is precisely that of Monica Bellucci and Carole Bouquet. In it, they play a couple who get excited at funerals.
The interesting thing is that fetishes it has a fantastic cast. Anyone who watches French films will recognize several of the actors. However, the result is quite uneven. It won’t cause a lot of laughter, just maybe a little discomfort in some passages. And for those who expected something very sexy, will also be very frustrated. In the end, it’s just a weird movie.
