The first Korean series recorded in Brazil has the participation of Pyong Lee and is already having episodes recorded. The production, which should be released in 2023, on the streaming platform HBO Max, is called “Beyond the Wardrobe”.
According to one of the actors, Pyong Lee, the series is a great bet on the streaming platform. “Korean shows are exploding and are booming all over the world. An example is the success of Round 6, the most watched Korean series in the history of any other platform.”
According to Lee, the success of Korean series and soap operas is not new, because these productions have been awarded all over the planet for decades.
“The first Oscar for a foreign film went to Parasite. So, South Korea’s audiovisual, entertainment, k-pop, music industry has been standing out for a long time, and that’s why this bet.”
In the series, Pyong plays the manager of a K-pop group. Part of the cast he stars with came from Korea and he will perform in Korean. Which is not a problem for the actor, as he speaks, writes and reads fluently. He was raised by a Korean family and maintains this tradition to this day.
“It’s a challenge because my native language is Portuguese. In Korean, despite being fluent, there are some challenges in the middle of the script to memorize the text or speak some more complex words, but it’s been something very pleasant for me. It is a very interesting challenge and very present in my life because the first thing I did in the artistic field was acting at school. In the Korean school where I studied in my childhood I participated in two plays.”
The artist gave more details of his connection with acting. Contrary to what many think, this is not Pyong’s debut as an actor.
“At school, my first play was called “A ver Estrelas” where I played “Jonas”. Another very famous play in Brazil, called “Auto da Compadecida”, I played “João Grilo” and also won a trophy for best actor. So, the stage and acting are present in my life much earlier than people realize. In fact, my dream as a child was to be an actor in Hollywood. I still have a goal, but it’s not my current cycle, I’m in another moment of life, but later on I intend to pursue an acting career as it is currently in this series.”
In addition to the plays he participated in while still at school, Lee also participated in the movie “Meus 15 Anos” along with Larissa Manoela in the cast. As she also made some appearances in SBT children’s soap operas.
