ESPN has secured the broadcasting rights to Fianlíssima, the football event held jointly by Conmbeol and UEFA. The tournament has only one match (hence the name), and it will be played between Italy and Argentina, the last winners of their continental competitions, the Copa America and the Eurocup respectively. The game will be broadcast exclusively by the channel here in Brazil.
The main battle to get the right to broadcast the match was between ESPN and Globo. According to the investigation of the Notícias da TV portal, the main reason that made the sports channel stand out in relation to the competitor was the fact that it already broadcast the competition in other countries. The network, which is owned by Disney, will broadcast the game throughout Latin America.
The event this year, however, does not seem to have much prominence here in Brazil. This is due to the fact that the team will not compete in the competition, as it lost the Copa América to Lionel Messi’s country in July 2021. Therefore, the Final is more appealing among those who love football and want to follow along. even international games without the Brazilian team.
It is worth mentioning that the main idea behind the Finalissima is to take a stand against FIFA, which has no involvement in this competition. The idea is to respond to the International Football Federation’s idea of holding the World Cup every 2 years, instead of the 4-year period currently maintained. National sports federations and players also took a stand against the idea.
