Colin Firth is one of those actors that gives us the certainty that a movie or series is worth watching. He’s always great, and raises any production. Today (11), another movie with the actor premieres on Netflix: The Soldier Who Wasn’t. It is a practically real story, about two British agents who create a bizarre strategy to deceive the Nazis. And with that, they alter the course of World War II. In addition to Colin, the cast brings another well-known Mr. Darcy, Matthew Macfadyen. With these two, it’s clear that the movie is worth it.
But there are other productions based on real events available on streaming with Colin Firth. The series The ladder is an HBO Max miniseries, it’s one of them. The first three episodes are available, and the remaining five will premiere each week. Here Colin is Michael Peterson, a famous writer accused of murdering his wife, Kathleen Peterson (Toni Collette). The series follows the entire investigation that may or may not prove his guilt. One of the best interpretations of Colin’s career.
The king’s speech – HBO Max
Colin won all the awards for his portrayal of Queen Elizabeth’s father George. Since age 4, George has been a stutterer. This is a serious problem for a British performer, who often has to make speeches. That’s when his wife, Elizabeth (Helena Bonham Carter), takes him to Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush), an unconventional speech therapist. Lionel puts himself toe to toe with George and also acts as his psychologist. His exercises and methods make George acquire the self-confidence to meet the greatest of his challenges. He will have to assume the crown, after the abdication of his brother David (Guy Pearce).
Conspiracy – HBO Max
In September 1939 Adolf Hitler invaded Poland, starting World War II. In the winter of 1942, his troops were starving and freezing in the Russian blizzards. And yet his best general had died of a heart attack, and the United States had entered the war. For the first time, Hitler’s dream of the German empire lasting a thousand years was uncertain. That’s when 15 trusted men of the Third Reich, led by SS General Reinhard Heydrich (Kenneth Branagh), met for a secret meeting. In two hours they changed the world forever. This is because the “Final Solution” was decided there, which aimed to eliminate all Jews from Europe. Colin Firth plays Dr. Wilhelm Stuckart, who makes his position against the Jews very clear.
