Wargaming, developer and publisher of the free-to-play multiplayer naval combat game World of Warships, today announces the details of its initiative. Longest Night of Museumsdesigned to publicize and support naval museums around the world.
Beginning May 18, World of Warships will publish one museum showcase article per week, giving visibility to the greatest sites in the world’s naval history. This will include interviews with curators and an insight into these heritage sites for those who cannot travel to them.
World of Warships has hidden characters in its articles to encourage readers to compose a special bonus code. The first person to crack the code will win a five-day, all-expenses-paid, escorted trip to one of the published naval museums.
These articles will also feature embedded video footage from last year’s event, which saw more than 1.4 million people take part in a virtual tour held at more than 15 naval museums around the world via Twitch and YouTube.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, museums have been hit hard over the past couple of years. In addition to the financial impact, many do not have their own digital platforms to share their exhibitions and generate the desired impact on the world remotely. That’s why Wargaming, the developer of the most historically accurate naval combat game in the world, World of Warships, continues to support these museums and bring them to a wider audience.
“Participate in Longest Night of Museums international was a great experience for us. We were able to communicate directly with people all over the world, many who have probably never heard of us before,” said Johannes Olsson, Educator at the Maritiman Museum in Göteborg, Sweden. “At the same time, we got interesting glimpses of some of the sister museums around the world, many of which we would love to have the opportunity to visit in person. We are very much looking forward to participating in the event this year as well.”
The event was publicly celebrated by the World of Warships community of over 50 million players, and the museums that attended the event last year praised the impact it had on their organizations:
“Longest Night of Museums It is an incredible tribute to the worth of men and women throughout history whose heroic actions in battle have shaped the world we live in today,” said Elissa Lines, Executive Director of the Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum. “We are proud to tell the story of Pearl Harbor in this new and innovative way.”
