The company announced a set of measures that address privacy, representation and security
Google announced a set of measures that reinforce the company’s discourse of giving users more control over data. The features were presented at the GoogleI/O 2022 developer conference, held this Wednesday (11), and should reach users over the next few months.
Among the novelties is the creation of the My Ad Center, which allows users to define which ads they want to receive. The choice can be made from the selection of categories and companies. The feature is expected to be available globally by the end of this year.
This personalization can also be seen in an initiative that will allow the removal of personal information, including phone number, home address, emails from Search results. When live, users will be able to access the feature by clicking on the three dots next to individual Search results.
Diversity
Another novelty of the technology giant is a solution to improve the representation of skin colors in the search engine, today still very focused on white people. The new filter will have a scale with 10 skin tones, making it easier for the user to find the most relevant result according to their skin.
The tool was developed in partnership with Ellis Monk, an associate professor of sociology at Harvard, who has studied skin tones and how colorism affects people’s lives for more than 10 years.
