The 2014 Nobel Peace Prize joins the likes of Al Gore, Bono and Paul Polman, who have also been honored by the festival.
Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2014, Malala Yousafzai will be honored with the Cannes LionHeart 2022, an award given to people who have made a difference in society. Malala now joins the likes of Al Gore, Paul Polman, Bono, among others.
Born in Pakistan, Malala’s life changed when the Taliban took control of the city where she lived and banned girls from attending school. After speaking publicly about the right to learn, she survived an attack by the Taliban.
In 2014, Malala and her father Ziauddin co-founded the Malala Fund, a non-profit organization dedicated to giving all girls the opportunity to achieve the future they choose.
“His creative leadership of the Malala Fund has successfully established an institution that is creating positive change for many across the world. We are honored to present her with this award,” said Philip Thomas, Lion’s president.
Malala Fund works in regions where most girls miss high school, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Lebanon, Nigeria, Pakistan and Tanzania.
