The RAP Challenge: Augmented Reality on the Skin aims to reduce the gaps in inclusion and diversity in the digital environment
Meta launched an augmented reality project focused on the black community, the RAP Challenge: Augmented Reality on the Skin, with the aim of closing the gaps in inclusion and diversity in the digital environment.
The program, developed by several areas of Meta, including Black@ (affinity group of black people and company allies), will start with the launch of the Spark AR course on Blueprint, translated into Portuguese, where interested parties will be able to learn about creating augmented reality filters.
“The initiative is based on the premise that by including, educating and developing more black AR creators, it is possible to promote more diversity, opportunities and inclusion for this group in the digital environment”, said Erick Portes Martins, Strategic Partnerships Manager at Meta in Latin America and a member of Black@, an affinity group for black people and allies in the company.
The program will last for 12 weeks starting with the Education phase, followed by the Challenge phase and concluding with the Awards phase.
The Challenge phase will take place in June and the first 200 black developers who submit their best work will be chosen by the jury that will evaluate the projects based on criteria of engagement, creativity, sophistication and applicability to users and businesses.
The top 10 will be awarded in phase three and will receive a scholarship and equipment to foster a more inclusive augmented reality ecosystem in Brazil.
