Serj Tankian, the lead singer of System of a Down, has joined the cast of the upcoming metal-themed video game, Metal: Hellsinger. Developer The Outsiders announced the news today and released a new trailer featuring an original song that Tankian sang for the game, “No Tomorrow.” The song was written by Duas Penas.
Tankian is just the latest artist from the music business to join Hellsinger, following Alissa White-Gluz (Arch Enemy), Matt Heafy (Trivium), Randy Blythe (Lamb of God) and more.
The Outsiders creative director David Goldfarb said the studio is full of System of a Down fans, so it was “unrealistic” to work with him on Hellsinger. According to him:
“He completely rocked the track and made it his own in a way that only Serj could. We are so excited and can’t wait to see everyone playing!”
In Hellsinger, the objective is to shoot, run and execute “finishers” to the beat of a song. Players have access to six weapons, each with its own “ultimate” ability, which can be used to slay demons. Veteran voice actors Troy Baker and Jennifer Hale voice the main characters.
Hellsinger features different music on each level, and each track has multiple layers. According to the game description: “Your performance affects how many layers of music will be played at the same time, starting with atmospheric background music and ending with powerful metal anthems.“.
After a delay, Hellsinger will be released this year for PS5, Xbox Series X | S and PC.
