Ambev announced an unprecedented initiative in the company. The project “Chall me by my name (and pronoun too)”, will support the team of trans people and transvestites in the process of rectifying their names for free and with all the necessary support.
Understanding all the bureaucratic issues that encompass the name change, Ambev called a lawyer specialized in the subject to carry out the entire process for employees who request the change. Issabela Reis, People and Management Analyst at Ambev, even made the change within the government’s proposal, but her civil name is still on her document. Now, it takes little time for this reality to change. “This is a very humanitarian issue of the trans body, of seeing the possibility of our existence. I felt human“, Comment Issabela.
In addition, so that people in vulnerable situations can also fulfill this dream, Ambev will make a donation proportional to the amount invested in its employees to Casa Neon Cunha, an NGO that welcomes people from the LGBTQIA+ community. The amount collected will be sent to the NGO, where the division will be made so that they can correct as many names as possible. Currently, there are more than one hundred trans people at Ambev, at different hierarchical levels.
Michele Salles, Head of Diversity, Inclusion and Mental Health at Ambev:
“At Ambev, respect and empathy are non-negotiable values so that we can transform lives beyond our ecosystem. After all, being who you are gives you the freedom to create, innovate, discuss and engage your plans and moves in the company.”
The company also launched a support guide for possible practical challenges, in addition to content exclusively designed to support the journey of the trans and transvestite population within its ecosystem.
Felipe Ferreira de Barros, Inputs Analyst for the brand, commented:
“5 years ago I discovered myself as a trans man. Since then it has been a battle to have my name and my gender recognized for the State and for my professional career – due to legal and financial obstacles. When I had the opportunity to have my documents rectified by Ambev, I felt relief, hope and acceptance from everyone. I felt made visible and surprised that there is a company that, in fact, promotes a policy of belonging to minorities.”
