A new update is being released onNo Man’s Skyand adds one thing all players want: space whales. The Leviathan update is available on Wednesday and it adds more than just large flying sea mammals – it also has a “roguelike” time loop gameplay addition for players to play with.
In a press release, Hello Games said that players start the expedition together, and every time they die, they lose their progress and have to start over. However, the death of each player helps the community “break free” from the time loop. According to the company:
“Difficulty came in many ways, but each kill means a loop reset and a new proc-gen load. To facilitate completion of the ultimate goal of exiting the cycle with only one life, the community can work together on a persistent global goal that permanently improves the quality and frequency of upgrade rewards encountered during each cycle. It’s so unlike anything players have ever experienced in No Man’s Sky before and brings a new vibration to the universe.”
All of this connects to a story that will slowly unfold itself and which, of course, includes “a large and imposing space creature shrouded in myths and mysteries”. Rewards for playing the expedition include a new cloak, “The Whalestalker”, and other items. Most importantly, a space whale to add to your fleet of ships, said Hello Games.
Hello Games also said that the developer is also continuing to work on a Nintendo Switch version of No Man’s Sky as well as a few other “major future updates”. The latest update of No Man’s Sky Outlaws, was released in early May.
